The Ongoing Project Report

There are, at present, fourteen projects in various states of incompletion.

I know this because I counted. This was a mistake. Before counting, I had a vague sense that there were "several." Several is a comfortable number. Several implies you are a busy person with many interests. Fourteen implies something else entirely, and I would rather not examine what.

The barn is still down. This is not new information. The barn has been down since the storm and will continue to be down until circumstances change, which they have not shown any urgency about doing. The barn is in many ways a metaphor for the rest of the situation, which I have been careful not to think about too hard.

Verse THERE WAS AN OLD MAN WITH A BEARD

There was an Old Man with a beard,
Who said, 'It is just as I feared! —
Two Owls and a Hen,
Four Larks and a Wren,
Have all built their nests in my beard!'

— Edward Lear, 1846

The house in town is progressing in the sense that I have looked at it several times this month. On three of those occasions I went inside. On one of those occasions I stayed for more than twenty minutes. This is, by recent standards, significant momentum.

I have started a new app. I realize this is not what the current project list needed. The current project list needed subtractions, not additions. The app is interesting, however, and the other projects were not ready to be worked on, which is a different thing than saying I did not want to work on them, although it is also that.

The website continues to exist. You are reading it. This is evidence of follow-through and I am choosing to count it.

Puzzle of the Issue

I have hands that point but cannot grasp, a face but no eyes to see, and yet I am consulted at every hour. What am I?
